CloseDoes God Punish Us? Hebrews 12:4-13 Main Point: We must embrace the Father’s discipline so that we may run this race with perseverance and be made more like Jesus! Father’s discipline = God’s loving correction/punishment to help us turn away from sin, and persevere through hardships.(v.6) 1. Though it is not pleasant, we are not to despise or reject His discipline because He is treating us as His children. v. 5-6 V.5 – ‘Make light’ = Despise or regard lightly; care little for. *Human parents discipline their children for their good – why would we expect any less of our Heavenly Father? 2. We are to endure hardship in our lives as discipline – receiving it as training for righteousness and holiness. v. 7-11 James 1:2-4 3. The result is to make us strong, able to persevere, and able to share in His holiness. v. 12-13
