CloseCome to the Table I Corinthians 11:17-34 Main Point We come to the Lord’s supper to remember and proclaim His death, resurrection and return; and we must have proper recognition of Christ’s sacrifice, and His Body. 1. If we partake we must truly believe– it must not be an empty ritual. verses 23-26 James 2:19 2. To partake in an unworthy manner means to make it into a time of self-centered indulgence and sin. verses 20-22 3.To partake without recognizing the Body of the Lord means: (verse 29) a. I don’t recognize that the elements in the Lord’s supper represent the shed blood and broken body of Jesus Christ – His sacrifice. verses 24-27 b. I don’t recognize that we, His followers, are the spiritual body of Christ, and we are to treat each other with reverence and concern. verse 29 4. We can bring judgement on ourselves by violating this – we are to understand that it’s God’s discipline to keep us from being condemned with the world of unbelievers. verses 29-32 Hebrews 12:7-11
