Message: “Are You Drifting?” from Tom Leonard

A message from the series “The Book of Hebrews.” Are You Drifting!
Hebrews 2:1-4

Main Point:
We must guard against drifting in our relationship and devotion with Jesus, lest we find ourselves ignoring our Great salvation.

‘Drifting’ (pararheuo) = going along with the flow! (as in the current of a river – we never drift upstream!)

1. The safeguard to drifting is to ‘pay more careful attention’ (Give attention to, be attentative, take heed, to apply oneself – as in bringing a ship to dock or land.)

*Hebrews 12:2 – Fix your eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith!

Re-focus!

2. Drifting is allowing other things to take the place of our devotion and discipleship. It happens slowly and imperceptively.

*It moves from drifting to ‘ignoring’ such a great salvation v.1
It starts with allowing our focus on Christ to shift. We become spiritually lazy; we excuse, justify and deceive ourselves.

Repent!

3. The danger is that our heart becomes hard toward God; and no longer hear His Spirit calling us to return!

v.2 consequences – punishment/discipline (chp 12) Rev. 3:19

Message: “God’s Supreme Son” from Tom Leonard

A message from the series “The Book of Hebrews.” God’s Supreme Son
Hebrews 1:1-4

Main Point:
We must embrace Jesus Christ, God’s Son, as the Supreme One, who is God’s final revelation and whose victory has provided salvation and new life for us!

1. He is the Supreme One because of Who He is:

A. God’s only begotten Son John 3:16-18

B. Jesus Christ is God’s final revelation to us. (v.2)

C. He is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact
representation of His being. (v. 3)

‘Radiance’ = reflected brightness, Effulgence – shine forth. As the sunlight is the radiance from the sun, separate, yet inseparable – so the Son… God’s glory shining forth to us.

Image (Charakter) = Stamp/engraving, exact expression or image, precise replica, in every respect – Not physical for God is spirit.

Colossians 1:15

2. The Agent of and Sustainer of all creation (vv. 2-3)

Colossians 1:16-17

3. The One greater than angels vv.4-14

4. He is the Supreme One because of what He has done:

• He provided purification for our sins. (v. 3)
=wash, cleanse, purge – Colossians 1:19-22

• He was appointed Heir of all things by His obedience. (v. 2)
Heir = position of first born – receives the inheritance of God’s property Colossians 1:15

Do you know Him, this One thru Whom God brought all things into existence & sustains all things by His powerful word? He is the center of all reality and existence. Do you know Him – this risen Supreme One who has given his life as a sacrifice – and is victorious over death, and by whose Grace we receive forgiveness of sins and are given His righteousness before God?
Surrender to Him, invite Him into your life- and you will know a new and transformed life!

Message: “God’s FInal Word” from Tom Leonard

A message from the series “The Book of Hebrews.” God’s Final Word
Hebrews 1:1-4

Main Point:
God spoke by the prophets in the past, but He has spoken the final word to us in His Son, Jesus, the Messiah. We must embrace the Son as the fulfillment of all God has previously spoken.

God Spoke! (Gr. Laleo) = to use words in order to declare one’s mind and disclose one’s thoughts.
(Hebrew ‘awmar’) – to speak, command. (Genesis 1:3)

General revelation Romans 1:18-20
Special revelation II Peter 1:20-21

Exodus 19:3 ‘Then Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain and said, “This is what you are to say to the descendants of Jacob and what you are to tell the people of Israel:’

1. God spoke by the prophets with a view towards the messianic fulfillment. Deuteronomy 18:15 > John 6:14 > Acts 3:19-24

Verse 3 – His ‘Son’ – John 3:16 ‘Monogenes’ = Sole / only one of its kind

2. Hebrews stresses the absolute supremacy and sufficiency of the Son – the fulfillment of the promised new covenant which fulfills and surpasses the old covenant. Jeremiah 31:31-34 > Hebrews 8:6-13

*Son=’Heir of all things and thru whom God made the universe’

Message: “Are You a True Worshiper?” from Tom Leonard

A message from the series “Not Part of a Series.” Are You a True Worshiper?
John 4:21-24

Main Point:
Father God seeks those who will worship Him with their whole heart – in spirit and in truth. Are we seeking Him?

‘Worship’ (Greek – proskuneo) = to kiss towards, to kiss the hand translates Hebrew (Shachah) – to bow down, prostrate oneself.

Psalm 29:2 ‘Give to the LORD the glory due His name, worship the LORD in the splendor of His holiness.’
*Have you come to Him?

Micah 6:8 ‘He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you? But to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?’

*Worship is both an act and an attitude!

1. God is spirit and seeks us to worship Him in spirit and in truth. verse 24

(place is irrelevant)

2. In Spirit means in the inner being, the spirit – the heart, not just outward show, external ritual. verse 23a

3. In truth means one’s spirit is connected with, and made alive by the truth of God revealed in His Son, Jesus Christ. verse 23b
