Main Point:
Jesus sent His Spirit to live in us and transform us into His image and likeness so that we will reflect Him in this world!

John 14:16-18
Jesus promised to send the ‘Helper, Counselor’ = the ‘One who comes alongside’, to be
in us.

Verses 14-16 Only when you turn to Jesus is the veil that prevents understanding removed.

Verse 17 The Lord Jesus lives in us by His Spirit and brings freedom!

John 8:32-36

Verse 18a We, who have been set free ‘behold as in a mirror’ the Lord’s glory – we behold and reflect Him!

Hebrews 1:3

Verse 18b We are being continually ‘transformed’ (metamorpho) into the likeness of Jesus with ever-increasing glory!

Romans 8:26-28
Main Point:
Jesus sent His Spirit to live in us and help us in our weakness
that we may live as His witnesses in this world!

John 14:16-18
Jesus promised to send the ‘ Helper ’ (paracletos) = ‘One who comes alongside, assists’, to be in us!

Verse 26a – The Spirit assists us in our weakness. .

Weakness (astheneo) = in infirmity, feebleness of mind or body, moral frailty .

Assist = ‘to lay hold of along with.’

Verse 26b Example- We do not know how (or ‘what’) we ought to pray, but the Spirit intercedes for us…

Intercede = speak to the Father on our behalf (regarding that in which we are weak).
>With groans that words cannot express (unutterable)

Verse 27 The Spirit intercedes for us in accordance with God’s will.

New Living Translation – ‘And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.’

Verse 28 A promise to lay hold of!

Romans 8:9-16

Main Point:
Jesus sent His Spirit to live in us so that we can be transformed, & be led to live as His witnesses in this world!

Acts 1:8

Verses 9-11 We are now controlled by the Spirit in us, and He gives life to us with Christ’s resurrection life!

Verses 12-14 We must cooperate with the Spirit of Christ in us by following His lead – listening to His voice and obeying.

Galatians 5:16 Live by the Spirit – v.25 Keep in step with the Spirit.

(doesn’t matter how long with Jesus – Spirit still speaks/leads…)

Verses 15-16 We have the inner witness (testimony) – confirmation of the Spirit in us, that we are God’s sons and daughters – led by His Love, not fear!
