Message: “Receiving the Word of God” from Tom Leonard

A message from the series “Thessalonians.” Receiving the Word of God
I Thessalonians 2:13-20

Main Point:
We must receive the scriptures as the authoritative, inerrant Word of God that they are, which will transform us into imitators of Christ.

You know that you are receiving the Word of God this way if you are becoming imitators of Christ more and more.

1. Paul’s proclaiming of the Gospel of Christ, and subsequent letters are declared as Scripture by Peter, not the word of men. (verse 13)

Acts 17:2-3
II Peter 3:14-16
II Timothy 3:16-17

2. The Word of God works in us who believe, and transforms us into imitators of Christ. (verse 14)

Philippians 2:12-13

3. Receiving the Word of God means that we embrace it and then do what it says, and are transformed!

James 1:22-24

A message from the series “Thessalonians.” Entrusted with the Gospel
I Thessalonians 2:1-12

Main Point:
God has entrusted us with the gospel of Christ, and He is testing our hearts to see if we will be faithful to share the gospel, and our lives, out of love with those He brings to us.

1. God wants us to please Him by sharing the gospel of Christ regardless of suffering or opposition, with pure hearts and right motives. (verses 1-6a)

II Timothy 3:10-13

How are you doing in this test??

2. We live out the gospel with love for people, sharing our lives like a caring mother and father – encouraging, comforting, and urging people to live for Christ. (verses 6b-12)

II Corinthians 5:17-21

Message: “Rescued From the Coming Wrath” from Tom Leonard

A message from the series “Thessalonians.” Rescued from the coming Wrath
Thessalonians 1:9-10

Main Point: When we repent and put our trust in the resurrected Son, Jesus Christ, we are rescued from God’s coming wrath.

‘Rescue’ = to draw towards oneself (as out of a swift current).

II Thessalonians 1:6-10

God’s Wrath = Divine just punishment for those guilty of transgressions. (Exodus 34:5-7)

1. The prophets spoke of the coming wrath as the ‘Day of the Lord’. Isaiah 13:6-13

Jesus Christ, the risen Son of God, was the lamb of God – the sin offering that turns away the Father’s wrath from us. ISAIAH 53:1-12

3. In faith and hope, we wait for Christ’s return which is our blessed Hope! (5:9) verse 10

II Peter 3:8-13

Main Point:
We are to be joyful and give thanks that Jesus has opened our eyes to see that He is the Son, and that we know the Father through Him!

1. No one can know who the Son or Father is unless the Son chooses to reveal it to them. verse 22
