A message from the series “Colossians.” Serving Christ in My Work
Colossians 3:22 – 4:1

Main Point
We are to work at our jobs as working for Christ and we will receive a reward of inheritance from the Lord.

Assumption of context – master and slave are saved and submitted to the Lord!

*Are you saved and submitted to the Lord?!

II Thessalonians 3:10 ‘If anyone refuses to work, let them not eat.’

1. Whatever job we do, we must do it with all our hearts (integrity!), not only to win favor from our employer, but with reverence for the Lord! verse 22

Ephesians 6:5-9

Our work is our Witness!

I Peter 2:12

2. Whatever job we do (Employers as well), we must understand that we are working for the Lord! verses 22-24

Our work is our Worship!

3. The Lord wants to reward us when we work to please Him; but, understand, wrongdoing will be repaid! verses 24-25

Our work brings Eternal Reward!

Message: “Serving Christ In My Family, Part II” from Tom Leonard

A message from the series “Colossians.” Main Point:
We are to honor and serve Christ in our family and we will see the blessings of God manifested in all these relationships.

Assumption is that you are saved and submitted to the Lord

1. Wives are to submit to their husbands as is fitting in the Lord. verse 18

‘Submit’ = To put under the appointed order.

2. Husbands are to Love their wives and are not to be harsh with them. verse 19

‘Love’ (agape) = unconditional, self sacrificing commitment for my Wife’s good.

3. Children are to obey their parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. verse 20

‘Obey’ = Listen attentively and heed – do what they say!

4.Fathers/Mothers do not embitter your children or they will become discouraged. verse 21

‘Embitter’ = Provoke to anger & bitterness.

A message from the series “Colossians.” Main Point:

Message: “Our Foundation in Christ” from Tom Leonard

A message from the series “Colossians.” Our Foundation is Christ!
Colossians 3:15-17

Main Point:
We must make as the foundation of our lives, the Peace, Word, and Name of Christ.

Verse 3 – our ‘life is now hidden with Christ in God…’

1. The Peace of Christ is to rule in our lives and in His Body. (verse 15)

‘Peace’ = Tranquility; harmony with others; fearing nothing because of assurance of salvation in Christ.

‘Rule’ = Direct, control, govern.

2. The Word of Christ is to Dwell in us richly so that we teach and admonish one another. (verse 16)

‘Word of Christ’ = Especially the words of Jesus!

Hebrews 4:12 – ‘For the Word of God is living and active…’

‘Dwell’ = inhabit & influence.

3. Everything we say and do is to be done in the Name of the Lord Jesus. (verse 17)

‘Name’ = The authority, will, character of the person (Christ).

In living this way – we are giving thanks to God thru Christ!

Message: “Clothe Yourself! Part II” from Tom Leonard

A message from the series “Colossians.” Clothe Yourself
Colossians 3:12-17

Main Point :
Christ calls us to clothe ourselves with His character qualities and to practice His attitudes and actions with the peace, Word and Name of Christ as our foundation.

1.We have been chosen by God, and are holy and dearly loved!
verse 12

Verse 3 – Our ‘life is now hidden with Christ in God’

2.Therefore, we are to clothe ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience – character qualities of Christ!
verse 12

Verse 9-10 – ‘You have taken off the old self and put on the new self which is being renewed…’

3. We must bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances we have against each other as the Lord has forgiven us.
verse 12

4. We must put on Love which binds us together.

Message: “A Faith That Saves” from Tom Leonard

James 2:14-26

Main Point
If I have true Saving Faith, it will produce obedient good works in my life.

1. Question:Can faith without deeds save a person? (v. 14)
Save from what?
God’s judgment! (vvs. 12-13)

The foundation of True saving Faith is expressed in Romans 10:9-10

The Day of God’s wrath
Romans 2:5-6

2. False faith is an intellectual belief in God that does not result in obedient good works.
