CloseGod’s Final Word Hebrews 1:1-4 Main Point: God spoke by the prophets in the past, but He has spoken the final word to us in His Son, Jesus, the Messiah. We must embrace the Son as the fulfillment of all God has previously spoken. God Spoke! (Gr. Laleo) = to use words in order to declare one's mind and disclose one's thoughts. (Hebrew ‘awmar’) – to speak, command. (Genesis 1:3) General revelation Romans 1:18-20 Special revelation II Peter 1:20-21 Exodus 19:3 ‘Then Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain and said, "This is what you are to say to the descendants of Jacob and what you are to tell the people of Israel:’ 1. God spoke by the prophets with a view towards the messianic fulfillment. Deuteronomy 18:15 > John 6:14 > Acts 3:19-24 Verse 3 – His ‘Son’ – John 3:16 ‘Monogenes’ = Sole / only one of its kind 2. Hebrews stresses the absolute supremacy and sufficiency of the Son - the fulfillment of the promised new covenant which fulfills and surpasses the old covenant. Jeremiah 31:31-34 > Hebrews 8:6-13 *Son=’Heir of all things and thru whom God made the universe’
