Main Point:
Though you are young, set an as a Christ-follower to everyone around you.

A message from the series “The Book of Hebrews.” Sinai or Jesus?
Hebrews 12:18-29
Main Point:
Through Jesus we have a way through Sinai to Mt. Zion (God’s Presence)!
We don’t go around Sinai, we go through it by Jesus!
1. Sinai is the Old Covenant – based on keeping the law, with fearful and severe consequences. It points us to Jesus! verses 18-21
The Law’s purpose was to point out the impossibility of keeping it and point us to our need for Christ. Galatians 3:23-25
2. The new covenant, of which Christ is the mediator, is the only basis by which we come to Zion; to worship our Awesome God! verses 22-29
In Zion there is mercy, grace, forgiveness and restoration – all in His Presence through Jesus… We walk with him through life!

Praise (‘Baw-rak’) = act of adoration; to bless, praise.
1. We are to praise who is Holy! verses 1-2

= ‘I AM’ – ; needs nothing nor anyone!

Isaiah 45:5-7 (call of Cyrus His anointed)
Holy = moral & ethical perfection (Separateness, Apartness-)
-Exodus 3:5 ‘do not come any closer…the place…is holy ground’

2. We are ‘not to forget’ all the He gives us. vvs 3-5
Verses 8-12 His nature of love, compassion and mercy! Chesed love= covenant love vvs.17-18 for those who fear Him

Hebrews 12:4-13
Main Point:
We must embrace hardship as Father God’s discipline so that we may run this race with perseverance and be made more like Jesus!
Job 5:17-18 (NIV) “Blessed is the man whom God corrects; so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty. For he wounds, but he also binds up; he injures, but his hands also heal.”
Father’s discipline = God’s loving Correction/Chastisement (v.6) to help us turn away from sin, and persevere through hardships.

If we have true saving faith we will not deliberately Christ and His provision of forgiveness of our sins, but we will persevere in faith!
Perseverance proves our faith!
