– Respect for authority is learned at home
– How I relate to my parents will affect every other relationships

2. How am I to honor my parents?

A. As a child, I honor my parents by obeying and respecting them.

B. As a young person, I honor my parents by accepting and appreciating them.

C. As an adult, I honor my parents by affirming and not abandoning them.

I. The second term of the covenant is ‘You shall not make for yourself an idol’ = ‘Don’t Idolize anything, but worship God only’, for our God is a jealous God.

II. Worship God only – give Him our highest love and devotion for only He is worthy.

Three motives behind idols:
– It is an attempt to limit God’s location
– It is an attempt to reduce His power and size
– It is an attempt to control God

There are three benefits of worshiping God only, putting Him first in our lives:

1. It will delight me – fulfillment
2. It will deliver me – freedom
3. It will develop me – potential

1. God made a covenant with Israel, and a new covenant with us His disciples to walk in relationship.

We come to the Father through His Son Jesus Christ, who gives us His Spirit who writes these laws in our minds, and on our hearts.

2. The first term of the covenant is ‘You shall have no other gods before me’ = ‘put God first in everything.’

I – Interests (I Corinthians 10:31)
R – Relationships (Proverbs 12:26; I Timothy 5:1-2)
S – Schedule (Ephesians 5:16-17)
