CloseSharing in the sufferings of Jesus Romans 8:18 – 27 Main Point: We share in the sufferings of Jesus at present but the Spirit helps us in our weakness until we are fully redeemed. John 16:33 Trouble/Tribulation = (Lit. pressure) affliction, anguish, burden, persecution, anguish, burden, persecution. Sufferings = emotional/physical hardship, pain, affliction, misfortune, calamity, evil, persecution. John 15:18-21 1. We are called to share in the sufferings of Jesus. (verse 17) II Timothy 2:3 II Corinthians 1:3-6 I Peter 1:6-7 2. Part of our sufferings come from the fallen creation. (verses 19-22) Bondage to Decay = ruin, corruption, destruction, perishing. Genesis 3:17 ‘Cursed is the ground (the earth in the sense of where we dwell) because of you…’ 3. We also groan inwardly to be fully redeemed (from the presence of sin). (verses 23-25) *Full redemption is realized with a redeemed body. v. 23 > I Corinthians 15:50-52 4. Jesus’ Spirit in us helps us in our weakness, and intercedes for us in the will of God. (verses 26-28)
